The Sun symbol was of great importance and was revered by the Indians as the provider of light, heat, the facilitator of crops and growth. The Sun Dance was a ceremonial dance performed by North American Plains Indians in honor of the sun at the summer solstice.

In many native American cultures, the turtle is a very powerful symbol for girls and women. It is a symbol of perseverance, fertility, and long life. – (Perseverance = persistence, tenacity, unyielding in following a course of action; a belief or purpose, steadfastness.)
